Togo and Sao Tome and Principe sign historic visa exemption agreement

Citizens of Togo and Sao Tome and Principe will no longer need a visa to travel between both nations, thanks to an unprecedented visa exemption agreement signed on Tuesday, June 18.

The historic agreement, which marks an important step in the partnership between Togo and Sao Tome and Principe, was formalised during a ceremony in Lomé.

The signing ceremony was marked by the presence of the foreign ministers of the two countries, Robert Dussey for Togo and Gareth Haddad do Espiritu Santo Guadalupe for Sao Tome and Principe.

The agreement covers all types of passports, highlighting the common desire of the two nations to promote greater mobility and connectivity between their populations.

In addition to facilitating travel, officials say the agreement aims to strengthen ties of cooperation and friendship between Togo and Sao Tome and Principe.

Dussey stated, “Through the agreement signed today, holders of all types of passports will be able to travel reciprocally in both countries, visa-free for stays not exceeding ninety (90) days.” This landmark deal is anticipated to significantly boost cooperation, trade, and tourism between Togo and Sao Tome and Principe.

By simplifying entry procedures, both countries stand to benefit from increased tourism, enhanced bilateral trade, and strengthened diplomatic relations.
