The Sierra Leone High Commissioner to the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Rupert Sydney Dowu Davies, has had an extensive diplomatic interaction with the Foreign Secretary of the United Kingdom, James Cleverly, during Cleverly’s recent visit to Nigeria, according to a press statement by the Sierra Leonean High Commission.

The statement reported that Davies and Cleverly had discussions on the consolidation and improvement of existing ties between the Republic of Sierra Leone and the United Kingdom. The foreign Secretary’s visit to Nigeria was part of a four-day trip to Africa.

While in Nigeria, the UK Foreign Secretary also met with Nigerian president, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and other top government officials to discuss stronger partnerships between both countries. This was Cleverly’s third visit to Africa since his appointment.

Cleverly had visited Sierra Leone in September 2022, where he held discussions with Sierra Leonean president, Julius Maada Bio.

Both countries have taken several steps recently to further strengthen bilateral relations. On March 9, Cleverly met with Sierra Leonean Foreign Minister David J Francis to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Trade and Investment dialogues.

The MoU sets out areas of cooperation between the 2 countries, covering the establishment of Annual joint Trade and Investment dialogues and strengthening the bilateral economic relationship and the long-term prosperity of both countries.
