Niger Coup: ECOWAS Defence Chiefs begin crucial meeting in Nigeria

Following the seven-day ultimatum issued by ECOWAS to the military junta in Niger to release and return detained President Bazoum to power, the Chiefs of Defence Staff of member-states of the organisation have commenced a crucial meeting at the Defence headquarters in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, with Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa chairing the meeting.

The ECOWAS regional bloc meeting is expected to last for two days. Chiefs of Defence Staff of Nigeria, Ghana, the Gambia, Togo, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Cote d Ivoire, Cape Verde, Senegal, Benin Republic, Guinea Bissau are all in attendance. The representatives from Niger, Guinea, Mali and Burkina Faso are absent at the meeting.
