President of the Republic of Benin, Patrice Talon recently reacted to the departure of the AES countries, Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger, from ECOWAS, insisting that a path to peace and Reconciliation is needed urgently.

Speaking during a press conference, Talon declared: “The sanctions are not made to last over time. We are the first to want the sanctions to stop. If we have to reach the division of peoples, we must drop everything, make peace between the organs to preserve peace between peoples”.

Benin has been one of the strictest countries in enforcing sanctions against Sahel countries, closing its border with Niger and suspending imports of goods transiting through the port of Cotonou.
