In its mission to restore state sovereignty throughout the national territory, the Malian armed forces claim troops successively repelled terrorist attacks against 4 posts in the localities of Labbezagan, Gossi, Tessalit and Menaka.
This is coming after several reports of increasing attacks against military posts across the Sahelian states of Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger by Islamist groups.
The Malian army’s recent success in capturing the strategic town of Kidal has been followed by several clashes that have resulted in heavy casualties on both sides and among the civilian population.
In Labbezagan, air-land operations made it possible to disorganise the attackers while inflicting heavy losses on them as they fled.
In Gossi and Tessalit, terrorist groups carried out attacks on military posts. In Menaka, the armed forces inflicted heavy losses on Islamist fighters, neutralising several dozen terrorists and arresting around twenty, military sources say.
Several vehicles, motorcycles and weapons were recovered by the Malian troops. In its statement, the Malian armed forces reassured the population of their determination “to secure the entire territory and to allow the free movement of people and goods.”
